The Repatriation Program assists individuals who are searching for their family roots, community, and culture.
Many feel that the residential school system is mainly responsible for the plethera of social problems which are prevalent within the community today. Because those who were subjected to the residential school system were taken away at very young ages, important parenting skills were lost, the effect of which is still visible today. Currently, many are faced with problems when raising families, including alcohol abuse, gambling addictions, loss of culture, family values, etc.. The Repatriation Program assists those who were adopted out to homes in Canada, the United States, and Overseas due to interventions.
A representative from the Wikwemikong Family Centre will act as a liason between all parties involved to facilitate the exchange of information. |
